Project Scope: Design and Installation of a Mezzanine Above Laser Cutting Area to Free Up Floor Space for Production Efficiency

A Local Metal fabrication company operates a high-output fabrication facility specializing in laser cutting and metal fabrication. As demand increased and equipment grew more complex, floor space became increasingly limited. Their laser cutting machine required several support components — including gas systems, chillers, spare parts, and tool carts — all of which were taking up valuable real estate on the production floor.

The company didn’t want to sacrifice workflow or add another building, but they needed a strategic solution to create more space and improve organization within their existing layout.

We worked with the client to design a custom steel mezzanine that could be installed directly over their laser cutting machine. The structure was engineered for both weight capacity and clearance, ensuring safe operation of the machine below while providing a large, stable platform above for storing auxiliary equipment.

Stair access and safety railings were integrated, and the deck was laid out to accommodate everything from gas tanks to tool bins — allowing the client to organize critical resources in one accessible location, off the main floor. This opened up space for better material flow, staging, and future equipment upgrades.
